Happy Consecutive Number Day!
Ryan's 1st day back to school for the year. As we were getting ready, he almost cried when he found out he was going back to ER Dickson. Here is the litany of complaints I got on the way:
"I want to go to a NEW school"
"They don't have enough Math and Science. I LOVE math and science!"
"I want to go to Lexi's old school"
"Can you do something called 'homeschool'? I think we could do that at our house"
Here were my responses:
"We'll get to go to a new school in Illinois next year!"
"Let's ask your teacher if she does math and science"
"You'd have to live at Nana and Papaw's without me if you did that" - he was NOT ok with that clause.
"I have to work and go to school too, so I can't homeschool you right now"
He still didn't want to go, but I talked him into it by saying we'd ask his teacher about the math thing and insisting that I'd keep trying to get him into the math and science school. Yay. When we got to school he thought his teacher was pretty, so he was ok with that. His interest in girls cracks me up!
He had an appointment with the ENT who removed his tonisils after school so I had to go pick him up early. When I got there, I overheard him telling his teacher and a friend that his "daddy is somewhere where he can't get out of" I thought oh, good night, it sounds like he's telling them his dad is in jail. So I asked him to please tell everyone that his dad is in the Air Force, not incarcerated.
The ent appointment went well. He told me that with tubes, Ryan is NOT allowed to go underwater deeper than 12 inches. WHOOPS I told him he pretty much spent the whole summer doing that. Apparently that is why his ears would burn every time we went swimming. Other than that, they will probably fall out in the next 6 months. so he should be good for diving by next summer.
On the way back home for the night, Ryan was so chatty. I love being able to talk to just him. He sounded like he had a lot of fun at school and he made a new friend. yay! He still wants to go to the math and science school though.

And so we meet again...
Today was a hectic but very rewarding day. I woke up at 4:30 after going to bed at one and being woken up every hour by a crying baby (but I got cuddles for it!!) to pack the van so we could leave at 5 to get to Montgomery in time to see Dennis. I was really excited to see him and give the kids a chance to see him as well so it was worth it.
Got in the van and saw that all four tires were low and the pressure light on the dash was on. Tried for 30 minutes to fill them up, in a dress, unsuccessfully at the Loves service station before we got on the highway. I spent the rest of the 6 hour drive freaked out about blowing a tire and being stuck on the side of the road with an uncharged cell phone and a van full of kids.
Luckily we made it in by the skin of our teeth. Stopped at the shopette to pick some things up for DW and his roommates and then made it to church as the clock struck 12. It was then we found out he had looked at the wrong mass schedule so we went to the picnic instead. It was SOOO nice to see him. the kids had a blast as well. they had the most amazing balloon animal-ist. He made Ryan a tiger-spider hybrid that was amazing. The guy could make anything. It was fun to watch the kids get excited.
After the picnic was over and DW had to go back we went to firestone to have someone look at the tires. We found out it was closed on sundays, but luckily Brian was there and filled the tires for us. (Remind me to send a nice note too his boss about that!) We got burger king lunch (kids mac and cheese meals) and Samm got an icee and we got back on the road.
The kids were really happy to see dad, but even happier to get back home. The looked like they wanted to hug the house. We got them a bath, into some pjs and let them relax for a few minutes before bed. After they fell asleep, I got Ryan's things together to bring him to his first day of FIRST GRADE today!! Wow, time flies!
Haven't even looked at unpacking yet. I'm sure that will come soon, eventually, if by necessity alone.

ordinary days
I am liking the new migraine preventer I am on, it really forces me to go to sleep at a reasonable time :) If for no other reason than I would pass out. It doesn't feel like it has improved my headaches at all yet but it has relaxed me, which is always good.
Got back in to work today after my long long vacation. It was nice to feel productive. Went to the library to make copies of some readings to scan in to pdf. Spent the rest of the time scanning them. Luckily we have a printer that autofeeds so instead of it taking 8 hours, it only took 4 to scan most of it.
Got a chance to talk a little bit to DW. Always nice to hear his voice. Especially after I woke up after having a really awful dream that he had cancer. I think it may have been precipitated by him shaving his head absolutely bald and sending me a picture of it. I woke up in tears :(
Other than that, did a few chores around the house. Still more to do, but they will have to wait. Maybe I can get in some after work tomorrow.

Friday and Saturday
Friday was a day of appointments. I had my MRI in the morning. Weird experience, but nothing too terrible. Then in the afternoon I had my appointment to check up on my IUD. Found out a have a cyst, but beyond occasional pain, it shouldn't pose a problem.
Samm and I went and saw a movie. I was really in the mood for something funny to cheer me up. We saw Dinner for Shmucks, which was pretty funny and good. Not too amazing, but it was alright. Tried to talk Samm into sneaking into another movie, but she politely declined. I told her she at least had to do it once as a rite of passage, haha.
We spent the rest of the weekend packing for our trip to orlando. We were going to leave very very early on Sunday morning , but of course Whoops, didn't go to bed early enough! we left at 7ish on sunday instead.

all work, no play
Today was supposed to be a fun day, but instead I had some extra things to get done for work before we could leave this weekend, so I spent the day working. No waterpark for us. Bummer........

goodbye offspring
woke up, packed the hotel room up. felt awful driving away from somewhere I knew DW was. Went up to bham to drop the kids off with Papaw. We met at a chickfila in Hoover, AL, which I now know to be the most confusing city in America. First I went the wrong way to get to the restaurant so we had to turn around. The parking lot was so confusing and congested that it took me almost 10 minutes to park. We let the kids play in the playplace and eat lunch for a while.
While papaw supervised the kids, Samm and I went to fill up the gas tank so he'd have a full tank and vacuum out the van. I got lost the first time, found a closed gas station and realized I forgot my wallet. After almost an hour!!! I finally filled up and cleaned out the van. Went to say goodbye to the kids and head back home to Mobile after Papaw and the kids drove off.
sam and i stopped at best buy on the way home to get some music to listen to on the drive. Made a dinner of tollhouse cookies and rocked out on the drive. She kept talking about how going to harry potter at universal was her one dream in life, so I spilled the beans that Dennis had planned a surprise vacation for us. hilarious!
We finally got home and I spent the kid-free night cleaning. Yay!

Z-day
So today was the day. We have been both dreading and looking forward to today for almost four years. I am so proud of Dennis for making it this far and nervous for him as he goes through this process.
This morning we woke up and Dennis was feeling a lot better so I at least got to talk to him. We drove together to Maxwell where I had to be at work for the filming of the intro video for the course. Brad drove up to be our “talent” and he knocked it out of the park. He spent a little while hanging out with us for lunch and then back at the hotel with the boys. He is just so awesome and I am so glad he and his beautiful family are still in our lives. YAY!
After filming and lunch we just hung around the hotel for a while until Dennis had to leave. Broke my heart. This thing has really thrown me for a loop. This is the best thing for our family. I know he’s just down the road... right across from my job even… but I can’t stop myself from crying. WHY?!? I am really annoying myself. In my brain I know I am fine, I just can’t shut the tears off.
After he left, Samm and I took the kids swimming. It was awesome fun. Ryan has really started swimming very well. He swims the length of the pool with his face in the water, only coming above water for air. He even has been diving for dive sticks. He has pretty good form. He says he loves swimming and has asked me to help him find a swimming team to join when we move up to Illinois. I think he could excel.
For dinner we went to Jason’s Deli. We really liked it. They emphasize fresh food and organic ingredients. Great kids meals with organic milk. AWESOME salad bar and free ice cream for everyone. I love it when my kids beg for salad.
Came back to the hotel and watched a two hour special of wipeout. There is something cathartic about watching someone get punched in the face.
While I was typing this, Dennis called to let me know he was okay and that he survived the first day. I was happy to hear that he was feeling better. Oliver was complaining that his tummy was bothering him tonight so I hope he doesn’t come down with what dad had.
Tomorrow they start their week with Paps and Nana. Driving the kids up to Bham tomorrow morning to meet them.
I have a sweet little three year old snoring in the bed next to me, so time to put this down and cuddle.

Another day, another road trip
Drove up to Montgomery on my own this am at 5. Had a productive day at work today with the awesome boss ever. Still more work to do this week, but I will get back to it on Wednesday. After work I came back to help Samm with the boys because Dennis had fallen seriously ill and was laid up in bed. Brought dinner to the hotel from Oliver Garden Spent some time swimming and got everyone in bed early. Even me. You’ll be amazed to know I was in bed by 9:30!!! Even though I was woken up by a car alarm at 10:45 and Charlie at 4. Yay me. I was up on my own at 6:30. It broke my heart not to get to spend Dennis’ last night with him, but I am glad we got the separate hotel room so he had a chance to rest up and get better. Thank the good Lord that Samm was here to help!
So far doing okay keeping up with the posts again. I’ve got them in an old word document until I can connect to the internet. It makes me sad to read through these old posts and how many I days I have missed writing down. Reading stories about the boys just last year makes me realize how much they have grown in such a short time. I need to get out the video camera more and capture these little moments. Maybe I should have them start doing a Vlog and do their highs and lows on the webcam. It would be something fun to save as they got older.

So yet another annee has come and gone...
I just realized I created and last posted in this blog last AUGUST. In-frikkin-credible.
Anyway, I thought I would resurrect this blog as a repository for all the things I want to tell DW while he's gone. That way they will be etched in binary for eternity or until blogger goes defunct, or our carbon emissions drown us is acid rain and liquid glaciers. mwah ha haha.
So the next year will be quite interesting for us. This is our last weekend together as a family for as long as the Air Force says so. It's breaking my heart. I miss him already and I am sitting next to him. I love him with all my heart, soul and mind. I never thought I could love a human being like this... and then I had kids. And it got that much more deep and painful. Because I don't care who you are.... it hurts to love.
Today was a good day. DW took Doc out to the skating rink today with Samm. So awesome. He said he had a great time. He was dancing while trying to skate, which wasn't working as well as he'd like as he is a novice skater. I was so glad he had a chance to spend the day out with dad.
The LBs and I hung out and cleaned up the MASS of Legos (tm) that have taken over my house, swept, mopped, vacuumed. Then I let them pick a movie on netflix insta-cue. The first was a nice veggie tales selection. Then I suggested we watch 80's classic Short Circuit. I LOVE hearing the kids run around saying "NUMBER 5!!!!" Can't wait to introduce the kids to some fun classics. I think that some Little Rascals are going to be next :)
Tomorrow we will be packing up the van to send the kids off the Nana & Paps' for a week. I cannot even thank my inlaws enough. The kids are super excited about going. I am excited about being able to get ahead in my housework before the crazy semester begins. Have I mentioned I am ready for total freakout mode??
Anyway, I will attempt to digest my days for DW so he can see what we're up to while he's away.
